Class 4 - Curriculum

Class 4         Half Term Beginning: Tuesday 29th October 2007

 

I hope everyone is well after their week off and is ready for a busy half term. In between all the usual year 4 hard work, we have an exciting trip planned to Chester and with Christmas approaching, we will be very busy.

 

English

 

Over this half term we will be writing a mixture of Non-Fiction Explanation texts and stories from other cultures, The children will be continuing to practise their hand writing, extra practise at home will benefit them greatly.

 

Maths

 

Year 4 will be looking at measuring, understanding shape, handling data as well as covering all four of the main operations. Please continue to help the children to practise their times tables, as they will be having weekly times table challenges.

 

Science

 

The children will be looking at Circuits and Conductors.  They will get lots of practical experience of making circuits and extend their understanding of circuits, conductors and insulators and the need for a complete circuit in order for a device to work.

History

Geography

“Friends, Romans and Parents!” This half term year 4 will be discovering the Romans. Why did they travel to Britain? What did they do for us? How was their life different from ours? We are all looking forward to our trip to Chester and our Roman day.

Art

DT

In Art this half term class 4 shall be looking at Ancient Roman architecture. They will be designing and making a photo frame based on Roman columns along side Mrs Vince. They will also be making Roman shields.

 

ICT

 

In ICT this half term year 4 will be writing for different audiences. They will be learning new skills on Microsoft word to alter text depending on their audience. They will also be researching the Romans and using the laptops to help with their science topic.

Music

In music this half term the children will learning how a simple tune can be based on a pentatonic scale and get the opportunity to create a class performance. We will also be listening to a mixture of music, to see how it makes us feel.

R.E.

In RE this half term the children will be learning about the Hindu festival of Diwali. We will be looking at stories associated with it, why and how it is celebrated and why it is important to have festivals.

P.E.

In PE this half term year 4 will be practicing athletics. The children will also be continuing their swimming lessons weekly on a Tuesday. Please make sure that all the children have the correct PE kit and suitable footwear available.

Modern Foreign Languages - German

The children will be continuing to develop their German knowledge, working alongside Mrs Lever.

 

Our PE lesson has moved to a Wednesday, please can you make sure all children have their kit with them on this day.
