Class 2 - Curriculum

Literacy

In literacy work this half term we will be looking at fairytales and poetry. The children’s reading books get changed on either a Monday or Wednesday, so we recommend that they have a good go at reading them before then. I am also going to start giving the children ‘talking homework’ to be done on a Thursday night, where the children talk to an adult about a given topic for around 10-15 minutes, to help them write in the ‘BIG writing’ session on a Friday.

Maths

Again, we will be covering all the main maths areas, with many of the children beginning to practise addition and subtraction with 2-digit numbers. Please help the children practise their number bonds to 10 and 20, as these facts will be vital to their own mathematical development.

Science

This term the children will be learning about electricity and electrical appliances.

ICT

This term the children will be using the computers as much as possible and we will be concentrating on writing stories using I.C.T. based on our topic of fairytales.

Art

Mrs Vince will be teaching the children how to create puppets this half term, which the children are already very excited about!

RE

We will be continuing to look at places of worship with the children, in particular churches and then continuing to look at the Christmas story.

Music

Children will be learning all about pitch and dynamics in music this term, linking it to the dance project in P.E.

PE

This term the children will be practising their bat and ball skills and continuing the develop their gymnastic skills. P.E. kits will be required on a Tuesday and Thursday, with both outdoor and indoor footwear. The children also have a fantastic opportunity, as Huddersfield Town Football team are coming in on a Thursday to teach the children football.
